520 _aWater scarcity is an increasing concern in agriculture, particularly in regions experiencing climate change and unpredictable rainfall. Traditional irrigation methods often lead to inefficient water use, excessive consumption, and poor moisture retention, posing challenges for sustainable farming. This study examines the effectiveness of an Arduino-based automated irrigation system in optimizing water conservation and maintaining ideal soil moisture levels in Olmetie lettuce (Lactuca sativa 'Olmetie') container gardens. An experimental research design was used, comparing two groups of lettuce plants: one irrigated manually and the other by an automated system equipped with soil moisture sensors. Results indicate that the Arduino-based system significantly improved water efficiency by preventing overwatering and adjusting irrigation based on real-time soil moisture monitoring conditions compared to Manual irrigation system. Statistical analysis revealed a substantial difference in soil moisture retention and volume of water applied efficiency between the two irrigation methods, demonstrating the potential of automation in agricultural water management. The findings highlight the viability of low-cost, technology-driven irrigation solutions for small-scale farmers and urban gardeners, offering a more sustainable approach to crop cultivation.
