Summary, etc. As the demand for paper increases, the demand for paper pulp increases as well. This poses a threat to the global tree population and to ecosystems. In response to this, alternatives have been developed. For instance, rice, an abundant produce in the Philippines was found to be a suitable alternative source of paper However, it is not certain that these alternatives are indeed sustainable for the environment. This paper focuses on studying the sustainability of using rice straw as an alternative source for paper pulp. This study aims to determine the change in the supply of rice straws if it is to be used as an alternative source of pulp for paper production.

The researchers selected Cagbang, Oton to be the subject of interest, and chose three farms to determine the supply of rice straws in Oton. The researchers performed a prerequisite survey in Cagbang Elementary School to determine the demand for paper over the course of five school days. This determined the amount of straws needed to supply the paper demand. The straws were pulped, refined, pressed, and dried to produce paper.

The results of this study showed that there is a difference in the rice straw supply in Cagbang, Oton after intervention when it was used as an alternative source of paper pulp.
