Summary, etc. | The Philippines is on the lower end of education in the world and this is reflected by the academic performance of students especially those in low-income family backgrounds. According to previous studies, the use of social media sites like YouTube has had positive effects on students' learning. Despite the positive findings regarding YouTube as an educational tool, there is still a stigma around its use in education. To address this, the researchers have implemented a YouTube-supplemented lecture that will incorporate social media learning through YouTube educational videos to aid public school students with their academic performance. A true experimental research design was utilized and purposefully selected Grade 6 public school students from Hibao-an Integrated School (n = 60) were chosen through random cluster sampling. The results were interpreted through an Independent Samples t-Test, showing that there is no significant difference between the performance of both groups. Furthermore, the results reveal that the control group's mean score (18.83) was higher than the experimental group's mean score (17.5) in the post-test. The researchers have concluded that the inclusion of social media based learning in lectures will not affect the performance of students more than traditional methods since the intervention has done little to improve the understanding of students on a certain topic in comparison to traditional methods. |
