Summary, etc. | Numerous studies have been undertaken to investigate Filipinos' levels of climate change awareness with the results indication that many are aware of the issue but lack the knowledge of it. Despite the importance of education in tackling climate change, particularly among youth, the world's educational systems require more proactive lecturing in fostering climate literacy. Grade 11 students from Jalandoni Memorial National High School under the General Academic Strand (GAS) agreed to participate (n = 21) and were given surveys regarding their demographic profile and climate change awareness level. Moreover, the One-Group Pretest-Posttest research design was utilized to examine the students' literacy improvement and the effectiveness of the intervention – an expert-led 0climate change lecture. The findings revealed that the participants have a High Climate Change Awareness Level. Additionally, with a total of 30 items on both test, the means scores were 18.095 and 20.095, respectively, both showing a Medium Climate Change Literacy Level. Through the use of IBM-SPSS, the Paired Samples t-Test revealed a significant difference between the two scores of the students (p = 0.008); thus, rejecting the null hypothesis (0.008 < 0.005). However, Cohen's d value revealed a small effectivity of the intervention (d = 0.11772). This suggests that future researchers can perform similar studies, particularly with a larger sample size and research design, and investigate students' perceptions of the intervention utilized. Moreover, climate change experts should use alternative learning methods, especially in enhancing expert-led lectures, to help enhance the youth's climate change literacy. |
