| Summary, etc. |
This action research study focused on the Ati community in Tigbauan, Iloilo, Philippines, with the aim of improving their candle-making livelihood. The study followed a plan-act-observe- reflect cycle and utilized a participatory approach to involve the community in the research process. The study collaborated with a candle-making expert, who provided valuable insights and recommendations on equipment and materials. The study also conducted a candle-making workshop, which was divided into two parts, and utilized face-to-face, one-on-one interviews to gather comprehensive data on the effectiveness of the interventions. The findings suggest that the action plans were effective in improving the candle-making livelihood of the Ati community, particularly with regards to the acquisition of relevant equipment and materials and the introduction of a new technique. Additionally, the fundraising events were successful in raising awareness about the research and gathering valuable insights from potential buyers. The study provides insights into the importance of collaboration with experts and government agencies, the potential of fundraising events as a tool for gaining valuable insights from the community, and the effectiveness of a participatory approach in research. |
