| Summary, etc. | The study aims to understand the struggles and effects of discrimination on young and old gay men in Iloilo, exploring generational differences in coping mechanisms and assessing the changes in the city's acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community over time. Twelve participants, evenly divided by age, underwent semi-structured interviews covering discrimination's impacts on their mental health, social life, opportunities, self-esteem, and self-worth. Thematic Analysis revealed persistent discrimination, with younger participants showing a proactive stance against it, contrasting the older generation's passive acceptance and tolerance towards it. This shift in response correlated with positive changes in the city's attitudes towards the LGBTQ+ community. Overall, the study emphasizes the importance of support, inclusivity, and education in combating discrimination against Iloilo's LGBTQ+ population. |
