Summary, etc. |
The aim of this study was to evaluate and determine the larvicidal activity and effectiveness of Paragis Grass (Eleusine indica (L.) Gaertn.) extracts in increasing the mortality rate of mosquito (Culicidae) larvae. The study was conducted using a Randomized Posttest Design with 4 treatments. The extract was obtained from the flowers of the plant, through maceration with 100% ethanol. The larvicidal activity was determined using the larvae of common mosquito (Culicidae) species. The extract was applied to the larvae at amounts of 3ml, 5ml, 6ml, and 9ml, and the mortality rate was recorded after 1 hour and 1.5 hours of exposure. The highest mortality rate of 100% was observed at the amount of 9 ml after 1.5 hours of exposure. The 9.38%, 27.5% and 40% mortality rate values of the extract were calculated to be at 3 ml, 5 ml, and 6 ml, respectively. The findings of this study suggests that Paragis Grass extract has potential as an alternative larvicide for controlling mosquito larvae. The study could lead to the development of a natural and eco-friendly mosquito larvicide that can be used in mosquito control programs and encourage the use of Paragis Grass as a potential source of natural larvicides. Further studies are needed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this extract in other field applications. |
