Summary, etc. Poverty and malnutrition still remain a challenge for the Philippines. There are still people living in urban areas that suffer from malnutrition due to poverty and that do not have access to a variety of food sources from agriculture. Hence, hydroponic systems are introduced to low-income households in Brgy. Bonifacio-Tanza, Iloilo City to improve people's access to food and lessen their daily expenditures.

Five households from the barangay were purposely selected. An AB Single-Subject research design was used. One hydroponic system for each household was implemented and was observed for two weeks. The researchers assessed through questionnaires the differences in their daily food expenses that occurred before and after the study, the growth yield of crops, and the frequency of harvest. An interview was done after the conduct.

The results of this study show that the systems were beneficial and useful, yet were hard to maintain and understand at first use. There is a significant difference of 0.010 in the daily food expenditure before and after the implementation of hydroponic systems. Furthermore, there is also a significant growth of less than 0.001in the crops: lettuce, green onions, and pechay, in the span of 2 weeks.
