Summary, etc. | Homemade Point-of-Use water filtration systems were studied as possible water treatment alternatives for manual water pumps. Knowingly that Point-of-Use water filtration systems are growing popular in countries such as the U.S., developing countries have only limited access and are unpopular. Three filter systems were used in the homemade device namely, Ceramic Filter, Sediment Filter, Ultraviolet Light Water Sterilizer. Two water samples from both the treated and untreated sample were tested for bacteriological analysis (Coliform test) to acquire the results of its potability. In order to improve the sample's microbial result, the use of the selected water filter was utilized in the homemade filtration device. The test result from the untreated water sample indicated that the water sample had a very high rate of total coliform and fecal coliform with the rate of more than 8.0 MPN/100ml and less than 8 CFU/ml of HPC while the treated water had a rate less than 1.1 MPN/100 ml for total fecal coliform and less that 120 CFU/ml of HPC. The unfiltered water failed the Philippine National Standard for Drinking Water while the treated water passed. |
